We'll spend more time this week reading about and discussing the differences between the Athenians and Spartans. We finished last week by analyzing the above pictures and making inferences based on what details the students saw in each photo. This proved to be a valuable exercise as the students had a lot of opinions about each! Which ones would be more likely to win at arm-wrestling? Which ones would you most like to have over for dinner? Which ones do think would have been better leaders of Greece, and why?
This week, students will write a letter from the point of view of one of these groups of people TO the other group of people expressing why their group is superior. Ask your Athenian or Spartan to have a look at their letter; they should be pretty entertaining. We will also spend some time on a close reading of Greek Mythology.
On Wednesday or Thursday of this week, students should be prepared to take an Everyday Words Quiz on the following words: incorporate, innovate, participate, justify, medium, objective, perspective, prior. Here is a Quizlet to help study.
